2588 Paint by Number

Todd Oldham's exhibit is memorable for many reasons, but today I'm thinking about how he used Swarovski crystal to recreate paint-by-number paintings (found in thrift stores) on the backs of some of his designs.

2587 All of Everything

sold still life, acrylic,  6" x 6"

I headed to Providence, RI today to join two painters for lunch at the Providence Art Club. Founded in 1880, the PAC is the second oldest art club after the Salmagundi Club in New York. After visiting the galleries and lunch at the PAC, we attended the Todd Oldham exhibit at the RISD Museum.

2569 Dinosaurs

Thank you to everyone who came out to the opening on Sunday. I enjoyed everyone's company - I got to visit with family, old family friends, my delightful friends, past workshop participants, cohorts, vixens (don't ask) colleagues and cousins (and cousins of colleagues who met for the first time yesterday, again, don't ask) and curious individuals about the project that I've never met before but hope to meet again.

Many praised me on my ability to evenly hang all 365 paintings (366? Was It a leap year? I can't remember.) - I assure you, if I were hanging them, they'd still be on a heap on the floor, with me unevenly placed in the middle of them (thank you Craig and Sue).

2561 I Do Not Like Clotted Cream.

Sunday May 29th, #2561 - If you're getting the idea that I ate my way through Italy, you'd be correct. I also ate my way through the airport in London - clotted cream for my scone? Well, yes, please, why wouldn't I? When the trip coordinator was putting together the trip and inquiring if folks had food aversions, she knew enough not to bother with mine - I'm a good eater. Coincidentally, the young woman at the scone shop was named Daria.

2560 Check Out

Saturday - May 28th - #2560, Check Out - Catarina and I headed back to Rome that afternoon via train and everyone else dispersed to Assisi, Florence, Sienna and points south. We spent some time taking photos and walking down to the town of Greve one last time to see the clothing and shoe pop up market.

Friday, May 27th - # 2559, Tuscan Cooking Lessons - Our last day at the villa! We packed, painted and then learned to cook. We gathered one last time and painted on the back deck that overlooked the landscape. After our painting session, the family of caterers that prepared our meals taught us to cook. We roasted zucchini by placing it in a metal bowl one the lawn under the hot sun and made pasta and ravioli.

2558 Foods & Nudes

Thursday, May 26th - # 2558, Foods and Nudes - The group took a painting break and headed to Florence for the day. We embarked on a tour of the city with special focus on the Uffizi and Accademia Galleries. We wanted to see everything and almost did, from Michelangelo to Raphael to Caravaggio.  The last couple of hours of the day everyone had free time to explore the city, I may or may not have spent a little too long at street vendor's cart.

2557 Seventh Year Anniversary

Wednesday, May 25th, Seventh Year Anniversary - I celebrated my seventh year anniversary of consecutive daily painting by leading the painters through olive groves and vineyards to the ancient town of Montefioralle for a plein air painting session. After breakfast we packed up our gear and headed for the castle on the ridge overlooking our villa. The village dates back to 1085.

I painted alongside Mary from Kentucky, she scouted out this narrow passage way filled with hanging flowers.
