Lesson Learned #643

Playing around with the lessons learned over the weekend. This one started with a lesson of putting in shadows as one color, but then I jazzed it up a bit.

Other News: South Shore Living put together a great article for the GJWPaint Challenge group, click here to read it.

More News Still: A screenign of the documentary, Library of the Early Mind, 'A grown-up look at the art of children's literature' will be at MassArt, Wed, March 2, 7-9. Followed by a Q&A by the filmmakers. Click here to view the trailer.

Swim Dress #642

Today was day two of the hour painting workshop with Nancy Colella - during the afternoon session we painted from photos.

This painting I did from a photo NC took, I chose it because of the lighting - that's the problem with a lot of the photos I have taken over the years, no strong light source, I did not take them with painting in mind. I cannot wait to get out there this summer with my new photo taking strategy.

Sure, I could make up the light source, but I'd rather have good reference to start from.

On the Round #641

I've had an unexpected treat this weekend - a spot opened up in Nancy Collela's workshop, "One Hour Painting," at the SSAC. I've never taken a workshop w/NC or at the SSAC - WHAT FUN!

Here's a painting from today's class.

4x4in Zippity #640

Today I took the Daily Paintworks Challenge. This week's assignment - to paint a Zippo with only THREE tubes of paint, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine and White. I had to buy the Burnt Sienna because I never use any other colors than the six plus white. So, I tried it this morning, armed with only the three colors and my 4x4" panel and coffee and gum and itunes and my office assistant (we're friends again after yesterday's fried chicken debacle).

Pick a. . . #639

Here's that pepper from yesterday. Turns out a little competition between still life subjects proved healthy, because today this pepper really worked that light - you go girl, er, um pepper.

Other News: It seems the squirrels are in cahoots with the dog (yes, she's been demoted today to just dog). In the backyard, to date, I've encountered rogue pieces of pizza, chestnuts and various snack foods, but today, aforementioned DOG found a large piece of fried chicken. . . and someone seemed very proud of herself.

Meanwhile #638

SOLD
While laboring over some peppers on one side of the room, the still life from two days ago, started in on me. You know, what I mean, the old - yoohooooo - look at the way the sun is hitting MY petals, dump the peppers, paint me.

So, I did.

TT #637

Hitting the tomatoes again. You know what that means. Okay, I really have no idea what it means. . .

Other News: The Abundant Artist listed the Ten Everyday Painters site, as one of his 9 favorites - thank you very much Abundant Artist, we appreciate it!

More News Still: Brie, the dog, has now added shipping and handling to her job description.

Orchid Maybe #636

SOLD
I have no idea what kind of flower this is - I brought home one branch - just enough.

Other News; My strange jungle flower creature is starting to bloom in the back room. I have not killed it with kindness.

More News Still; The new challenge is posted over at Daily Paintworks, but I haven't done it yet. Part of this week's challenge involves using only three specific colors and I don't own of them, burnt sienna, because I use only six colors plus white - a trip to the paint store is in order, or else I'd be cheating!

4x4in Tasty #635

SOLD
Fluff is regional, right? It's my idea of tasty - don't ask. . . because I won't tell.
My lips are sealed until March first.

In Conclusion #634

This should be the last of the radishes for awhile, they aren't looking so hot in real life.

12x12in Another Pint #633

Other News: I entered the backyard today to see Brie, the dog/office assistant/curator/art collector, hopelessly splayed across the tiniest patch of snow left in the backyard, clearly not ready for spring yet.

More News Still: The bookworms go bowling tonight. We only read a book for book club every other month, the off month is a social or in this case a little friendly competition.

Secret of the Blue Cup #632

I'd like to think it's been awhile since I've painted the blue cup - but I know myself better.

Radish Imitates Life #627

I painted this radish, then snuck upstairs to take a look at the sleeping Brie.

She was pretty much in the same pose as the radish, belly up, leaves (paws?) straight out, my furry little radish.

12x12in Around the Common #626

SOLD
Are you sensing a pattern? I'm trying to paint bigger two days a week, I didn't want to mention it at first because I didn't know if I'd stick to it, but now I look forward to it!

Floppy #625

SOLD
First I paint it, then I flop myself into it.

Other News: I opened my inbox last night to a treasure! Brie's art collection (er, um, mine) is growing. The fabulous painter, Gina Brown surprised us with the most expressive portrait of my fluffy little friend. Brie's considering using it for her head shot, she's got plans this one.

Twinkle Toes #624

SOLD
So, I set myself up a nice proper still life. . . started painting, turned around and saw this - tossed original still life painting off easel and did this quickly, because that excellent afternoon light was fading!

Other News: I entered the Ten Minute Challenge! Paint the same object eight times,
ten minutes each time - here's mine -

Grow #622 12x12

So, I tried the ten minute challenge today (not posted yet) and I discovered around painting #4 I used a lot less white, more pure colors - I have a thing for the white paint sometimes, it's like a safety net when I'm out of my comfort zone. So, I think I might try the challenge again. I'd post them now but they are still a little sticky. . . and cleaning wet paint off the scanner is not as much fun as it sounds.

Camping Cup #620

This is one of those old tin or enamel cups I would think for camping. Can't be food safe, right?

My fluffy little friend is off being groomed so it's quiet here. I could even put a roll of paper towels down and not have to engage in a game of chase to retrieve it again. . . all work, no play.

Friday, February 4, 2011

Pint of Daisies #619 12x12"

Does this painting smell like coffee?

Don't ask - but it has something to do with someone washing somebody's brush in someone's second cup of coffee. . .

Pig Pile #618

SOLD
I went to the fabric store and came back with this dotted paper instead.

CC #617

SOLD
You will no longer be getting dual paintings to your inbox - I've fixed the problem.

Well, I didn't fix it exactly, I just hit delete and moved on and now I have Constant Contact to help me with all my needs - okay, clearly not all of my needs - just painting to inbox related - but I'm so happy to have that behind me.

And again, thank you for not getting annoyed with all the extra emails because, quite frankly, I was getting annoyed with me.

Almost #616.5

sold This 4x4" is for the challenge over at Daily Paintworks. Carol Marine posted a photo of an Imperial for anyone to paint who wants to partake. 4x4", acrylic,

Other News: Daily Painting to Inbox Half Working update - I still have to give it another 24 hours before I delete my other list. So, you might get me twice again in your inbox tomorrow. . . I'm sorry. . . but thank you very much for allowing me to experiment.

More News Still: The February Challenge for GJWP click here to visit is posted! This month's theme, "Winter!" I went on location for that one (the upstairs window) and painted the neighboring house (again) at what point do you suppose will my neighbor think I'm creepy? Maybe I should paint my own house.
