I'm having another one of those painting spells in which I can't get enough of painting the same thing over and over. I now want a yard full of sunflowers. I planted some once but, er, um, I didn't plant them in the sun. I know, how'd I mess that up?

I didn't realize when I set this up the color was very appropriate for this time of year, it wasn't until just now I saw it. . . I did this little one today, plus a bigger one and then wrapped up the day beside a boathouse painting the ever changing light - that was HARD!

I thought after two paintings here I'd be all warmed up. Oh, no, no, it was decidedly not so. I pulled something out if it toward the end, but I spent a good hour wishing that little landscape would blow off the easel (accidentally, of course) and fall between the slats of the deck into the water. . . okay, that was intense. . . I might not be fully over it. . .

Other News: Brie, the office assistant, is up for a job promotion - she wants to be my agent.

Shhh, don't tell anyone - promise? What I'm about to tell you is between you and me, okay? I was drawn to this scene because the chimney was really crooked and really TALL - and - wait, remember, don't forget, you promised you wouldn't tell anyone - I ran OUT OF ROOM for the really tall chimney! HA!

I never draw anything out before I start painting, I make a mental note of composition plan and most days, really, I just want to start painting - so sometimes, these things happen.

When I was at the fifth grade class one wee-one started a painting and then asked for a new canvas, because she "knew what to do now."

I know exactly what she means.

On that note, I've been doing live, free demos on Saturdays around noonish. . . if you are in the Hingham Square area, come on by. . . look for me. . . beside, behind White Magdelena. . .

Sometimes I take my images into photoshop and go to Image>Adjustments>Desaturate to see if my values are really working. I'm very color dependent, I admit, so I've been secretly working on my values too and the desaturate feature in Photoshop doesn't lie, but sometimes I wish it would.

Lastly: Brie finally stayed still long enough to paint her, after she crashed from her peanut butter high. . . if you are interested in purchasing the painting of her, let me know, there's no link. And now that I've painted her, is she considered a tax write off? Or maybe the peanut butter used to sedate her is?

Enchanted New Year #365

Today's paper ran an article for my 365th day of painting (click to read)!

It's my 365th day - it's like my birthday, half birthday and New Year's all rolled into one.

Today I painted THREE paintings outside with the Tuesday painting group. The house we painted at was one of the women's house in the group and it truly was a page out of a storybook.

Someone accurately described it as enchanted.

While I painted a field of buttercups, chipmunks bounced by, butterflies drifted above with dragonflies and I saw a turkey - well, I'm not sure how the turkey fits into all this. . . but we were invited to a special lunch which included fresh ingredients right from the garden (no turkey - fyi).

Oh, the berry tart. We mustn't forget the tart!!! Everyone helped to celebrate my 365th day complete w/a candle, song and tart! If you have an inkling to try this, I highly recommend painting for 365 days for nothing else but the berry tart - VERY REWARDING.

Today escaped me, as some days do. I wanted to go outside and paint, but I had to wait. Now, Brie is waiting to take a walk. . . not as patiently as I demonstrated earlier however. A lot of waits today.

I don't have the blues, but I do have a lot of blue objects and fabrics. Today I shot the photo outside in the shade, while I stood in the shade. I meant to buy a scanner yesterday, but drove right by the store - ! Deep in still life thought, no doubt.

I did paint today, I promise, but I think I may have had almond icing on the brain for my coffee cake-loaf because I used A LOT of white - so, I'm posting this one today and I'll give the one I did today another look tomorrow in sunlight.

This one was the first of my two outdoor paintings on Friday - POP (painting outdoors partner) informed me that most outdoor scenes are mid-tone - AH-HA! This made perfect sense, of course they are, particularly around here, even the buildings are gray shingled! With that in mind, I was off and painting and trying to push things.

Bunch of Daisies and Lemon Wedges Daily Painting #297

No fuss! Painting at night gets the best of me, I cannot stay awake long enough for the paint to dry. The only issue with waiting until morning to scan and post is when one wakes up, the light is totally different in the day, and it creates a desire to fuss with something you've declared finished, just eight hours before, in a totally different lighting situation.

It's actually time to start a new painting, I know this, new conditions, new day but there's that meddling desire, which makes no sense because everything has changed. Move on!!!

Daisies Take Two Daily Painting #293

I know what you're thinking - this looks just like the painting I did yesterday - Well, yesterday, you see, I cut off the top of the daisies in my painting and I thought, huh, now what would it look like if I contained the subject w/in the frame of the canvas? Yesterday, I thought cutting off something would make it look like it extends beyond the canvas, offering an imaginary bounty, continuing forever, but today, I thought, maybe things should be contained in the frame?

I got to paint at Page's today, with my favorite painting people - I did three little paintings of onions - and one painting of a pig. I enjoyed the onions more than I thought I would - in this one, the group crit suggested making the little tomatoes on the left more vibrant - I have to agree - in person they were glowing due to the light from the window. If (when) I change it, I'll post it again.

But for today, I'm done (for now), I'm off to walk the dog. . .
