1102 Self Contained

sold I'm up early (as usual), and now there's nothing left to be done but wait for my review. I'll distract myself with some more coffee and a walk to the beach. In this painting I was interested in that little patch of bright between the flowers, it isn't a direct observation, but more of a personal enhancement of what was. still life, acrylic

1101 Unharmed

sold I was not as mindful at limiting the white in the paint mixing today, but I was really focused on that light coming through that weird maroon flower on the left. Other News: A cardinal visited the studio at seven a.m. yesterday, it walked through the door I left open - fortunately my irrational scream scared it away. still life, acrylic, 4x4"

#1100 Winding Down

Final reviews for the second year students are tomorrow. Ours (first year students) are Thursday. I'm trying hard not to 'finish' any of the paintings I started.  But my years in the design field, leave me conditioned to love a deadline, so it's hard to resist the urge to fiddle. However, I have figured out that with me and painting -  painting for a deadline will lead to no good. I paint weird things under pressure. still-on the no white paint kick-life,  acrylic, 4x8" $100 click here to purchase

#1099 Day Two, Less White

Only one more full work day before our final reviews begin. . . Other News: As an experiment I have been drawing every little detail of the little apartment I'm staying in - right down to the Christmas coffee mug.  I'm using a big sheet of Fabriano watercolor paper (my favorite) and walnut ink. still life, acrylic, 4x4" $60 click here to purchase

#1098 Less White

Today I limited how much white I mixed into my paint. I have a tendency to make lights by adding white, when I should just be making my darks darker. . . (I think). still life, acrylic, 4"x8" $100 click here to purchase

1097 Blinds

sold I wanted to show more of the room so, I emphasized the blinds on the right side. I am still painting with a very low light source - a desk lamp and regular light bulb. So, instead of pushing the values, I'm just going with it. I could fake more darks, I suppose. Other News: At the beach today I practiced mixing grays based on the colors of a handful of pebbles I found. still life, 6x6" acrylic

#1095 Third Year Anniversary Eve

sold Tomorrow marks my third year of painting everyday. I started my day with this painting, then went to the beach and painted a dune. I'm partaking in a classmate's daily routine of going to the beach, she paints there too. I drink tea and paint and draw in my sketchbook, it's my new thing.  After I went to the studio, but at lunch it was back to the beach to paint the docks.still life 6x6" acrylic

#1094 Fox Eats Grass

There's an underlying grass theme this week. I saw a fox eating grass on the beach tonight. I still wish I knew what these space-creature green flowers are called. Other News: I saw a seal swimming today. grass life, 4x4" acrylic, $60 click here to purchase

#1092 Outer Space

#1091 Under the Table

sold
I put these under the kitchen table and pointed a desk lamp down at them. I spent the rest of the day trying to claim a big painting I started from a black and white photo. It's just not mine yet, if you know what I mean. still life, acrylic, 6x6"

#1090 Borrowed View (Borrowed Title)

sold
The title of this post is the title of Connie Hayes series, so I renamed it  Borrowed View, Borrowed Title.

Today, after my much anticipated visit from artist, Byron Kim, I borrowed a view to paint. As you saw, the studio here is great, but well, it's empty and therefore, it's lacking things to paint. I tried painting the studio wall, the floor, the door, the yellow chair, my studio mate (she doesn't stay put long enough to paint). I went to a yard sale to find things to paint (I seldom paint things I buy, so that was hard for me and I didn't find anything), well, you get the idea. . . so, I was rescued by an idea from a classmate to take up residence in her apartment for the afternoon off site and paint there. So, I was an artist in residence at another student's residence, oh, this is getting confusing. Oh, that painting where is it? Ooops, it is back at the studio, so I'm posting a small flower painting I did first thing this morning. Other News: I sought guidance on my larger paintings during my review with Byron Kim. His input was extremely helpful. I'm keeping a list of all the feedback so I don't forget. More News Still: If you've ever contacted me through the website Daily Painters, I most likely didn't receive it until just now. There was a glitch which is resolved (I think) but I want to apologize to anyone. On the bright side, I just got the emails and I'm having a lovely time reading them, they are encouraging and positive, but I'm not sure if I should be emailing/responding to an email just received that was sent almost a year ago. Any thoughts on email etiquette here? What to do?

1089 Stroll

sold
The artist talks are one of my favorite things to attend while here in Provincetown. Last night artist Bryon Kim did a talk and slideshow of his work.  I was delighted to learn of his weekly practice of creating a "Sunday Painting." Of course I loved this series for many reasons, but most of all for the ritual. He will also review our work tomorrow. I'm excited (and a little nervous). still life, acrylic, 4x4" $60 click here to purchase

#1085 Lilies

sold My colors are a little different, now that I'm looking, since I've been here. I guess I am a little more influenced by my surroundings than I thought. Even though I have a studio down here, I have still been painting my daily painting in the kitchen. The borrowed aqua dishtowel has also dictated some new color combinations. My lighting setup here is also different, I don't have that intense direct sunlight I love to work with (all the windows at the place I'm staying and the studio are facing the wrong way) and I also do not have my freestanding light with the 50 watt daylight bulb with me. At first, I was sad and thought it was a hinderance, but now I'm seeing other lights I'd like to paint. Like at night, out the window. So far, nothing has come of it, but it's giving me new ideas for color mixing.

1081 I Packed Flowers

It's true. I knew I would be much too busy upon my arrival to Provincetown go scouting for something to paint, so I packed a mini cooler of flowers. They were the first things I unpacked. I've had a full day of looking at new and exciting artwork and a night of hanging my own. This little traveler is off to sleep now, sans her fluffy little friend. I'm here for the month, but will still be painting everyday and posting. still life, 4x4", acrylic,  $60 click here to purchase Other News: I added another page to my blog listing my workshops, etc. Click here to view.

Other News: GJWP painting pal, Nancy Colella, has been painting with Alzheimer Patients (read about it here on her blog, Patience with Patients). And recently she changed some of the daily paintings into line art so her class could paint them. It is unusual to be able to see one's work through someone else's eyes, so this was a privilege.

#1073 Sunflower

This gentleman is a true sunflower and when he turned his chair to follow the sun, we were face to face, only feet apart. . .  so, I scampered off a little so it was not obvious that I was panting him. But then he came over to ask what I was painting. Caught, I pointed to the (his) empty chair. He was very kind about unknowingly being my subject.

Well, if you live in the MA area, you know this painting wasn't done today (still raining) but this is my entry for this month's Girls Just Wanna Paint blog challenge, it is on display at our show at the Bumpus Gallery in Duxbury. Below is my daily painting. But I must ask, are you sick of me painting flowers yet? I hope, not because I just got a remarkable bunch of sunflowers today, for real. This, below, is not them.

Fower still life, (below) acrylic, 5x7  (gentleman in chair for sale through the Bumpus Gallery in Duxbury). sold
