Jack's House #371

This is "Jack's House." Jack, of course, a Jack Russell Terrier. . . the house is at Sheep Pasture in North Easton, a 154 acre preservation with meadows, streams, a community garden and yes, sheep.

I was in good company today while painting. I had the luck of having the new occupant of Jack's House, staked right near me. A well behaved, (Brie, I hope you are reading this) five month old beagle, named B.

OPP (Other People's Peonies) #370

This is supposed to be a painting of the peony down the street. But Brie and I have scoured said shrubbery for a flowering sprout to no avail. I think the landscaper trimmed the buds, so I'm not sure what will happen, will they grow, will they not grow? It's very suspenseful.

So, in the meantime, this is from my front yard too.

It's a big flower, with a little name.

The lady who lived here previously planted lots of lovely things I am/was not been familiar with. And most days I still have no idea what's what. The best I've heard to describe this kind of dilemma lately is a friend who stated, she often plays "plant or weed" w/another good natured, neighboring friend.

World's End almost never was - first it was hayfields, then it was slated for a a 163 home subdivision, then considered as a site for the UN headquarters and once thought of for a nuclear power plant. . . luckily for all of us it's fate it is now preserved as a park!

Something Blue #367

Don't get me wrong, I really adore the gray shingled homes and all the historic color palettes around here on houses, but there's just something refreshing about this bright blue. I painted at the beach today (okay, I had my back to the beach) and this was across the street -

I was going to change a couple of things on it- but I just remembered, I forgot!

Enchanted New Year #365

Today's paper ran an article for my 365th day of painting (click to read)!

It's my 365th day - it's like my birthday, half birthday and New Year's all rolled into one.

Today I painted THREE paintings outside with the Tuesday painting group. The house we painted at was one of the women's house in the group and it truly was a page out of a storybook.

Someone accurately described it as enchanted.

While I painted a field of buttercups, chipmunks bounced by, butterflies drifted above with dragonflies and I saw a turkey - well, I'm not sure how the turkey fits into all this. . . but we were invited to a special lunch which included fresh ingredients right from the garden (no turkey - fyi).

Oh, the berry tart. We mustn't forget the tart!!! Everyone helped to celebrate my 365th day complete w/a candle, song and tart! If you have an inkling to try this, I highly recommend painting for 365 days for nothing else but the berry tart - VERY REWARDING.

Double Trouble #364 ONE. . . MORE. . . DAY!!!!

The answer to everyone's question of what will I paint for day 365?

I've had many requests to paint Brie, the office assistant, who just went swimming for the first time this year, she's drip drying . . . on the couch - she's having a very good day. But I draw her all the time in my sketchbook, painting her just doesn't feel right yet, I'm still figuring her out. . .

Today at Page's studio was great, warm weather, sun. I drove the few miles back to where I live, TOTAL fog bank, a good ten degrees cooler! I've come to realize, I have spent whole days in a fog (literally) when I could have driven up the street and had a sunny day!

Perish the thought I get up and rearrange the still life from yesterday - but that's what weekends are all about, relaxing, being lazy. It just so happens, my laziness manifests itself in failing to rearrange my flowers. I did add a tomato or two!

The fast approaching 365th day is not without drama. Oh no.

First of all - my art store stopped carrying 4.5 Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic -

huh?

How can I get anything done with 2 oz tubes - seriously - eeek - so I'm ordering from DickBlick now - as if that wasn't bad enough, my panels - my precious masonite panels, that I CANNOT live without (okay, I have a lot of cannot-live-withouts, my dog, my M&M's, fresh basil, black licorice and good health, but I digress) - were OUT OF STOCK!!!

But the fine people in Rochester, NY are AWESOME and they ordered them and got them out lickety split - it seems my fluffy little office assistant is not so good at reordering - - note my dog has worse calculation skills than I do.

Alright, it was me, I failed to order them on time - I might be painting on the back of cereal boxes, but I'll get to 365 days, in fact, today's painting is on the flip side of a not so successful attempt at a pear.

OH! Thank you to everyone who came out last night - the opening was great - if you couldn't make it, the studio is open Saturday and Sunday 12-6. And if you already came to the opening, there's more work out in bins under the tent now, really, really great stuff, I saw it today, so there's good reason to come back.

Shhhh, my secret from the other day (don't tell anyone) but look for me in the Patriot Ledger on or near May 25th - you never know what will be in your inbox and last week I opened my email to an inquiry asking to talk to me - they even sent over a photographer! Brie was less than professional with all the hoopla, but we all managed.

Back to my normal painting hours. What a relief!

Tomato Daze #353

Last night and tonight I painted as the sun was going down - not in a good way, I started right as the light was beautiful and ended, by putting on many little lights around the room = not so beautiful. I need a more controlled setting, I need a lot of controlled settings, come to think of it, but I'd settle on one of those snazzy shadow boxes.

The whole thing that made me want to paint this setup, was the tomato stem.

Seriously, needing my head examined here, but I was really excited to paint the stem in all this. . . it was the last thing I painted in it all too. . .

The Year of the Blue Vase #351

I was going through my paintings today and realized I might be able to sum this year up as, "the year of the blue vase," because that little ceramic blue vase is in so many paintings. S0 I decided not to paint it today, I had to force myself, because we always want what we can't have.

The pink flowers are still not getting old as far as subject matter goes. I like the pink and blue and green, this is the subject of that big one I've been working on - okay it's not that big - but I feel like the bigger one gets less irritating when I do another little one like it.

Okay, this could be #349, now I'm counting backwards in my calendar, if forwards was difficult for me, you can imagine backwards being a whole new set of troubles. So, I think we are at #349, we'll know soon - I might be making this whole counting thing harder than it has to be.

Speaking of difficulties, this is a small version of the big one I've been working on. The small ones are so much easier when I have a big one I'm avoiding. The one I mentioned killing yesterday, I resurrected today - maybe I need a bigger brush when working bigger? Is that it?

Today escaped me, as some days do. I wanted to go outside and paint, but I had to wait. Now, Brie is waiting to take a walk. . . not as patiently as I demonstrated earlier however. A lot of waits today.

"ish" #338ish

"ish" is the title of this piece, I'm a little embarrassed, but here's the story.

I started this daily painting endeavor on May 25th 2009, therefore, the 365th day would be May 25th of 2010. Now, I've painted every single day, I haven't missed one. But what I missed, is counting accurately - so, until I figure out what number I'm really on, I think 346, is that right, (somebody, help!) I'm adding 'ish' to the end of my numbers. That's the nice thing about this painting and being me, there are no rules, just make sure it's done, although correct numbering, I wouldn't complain about.

Fabric Field #337

Another painting toned in yellow. It's no barn, and no one famous lived here, far as I know, but it was still exciting. I pretended the fabric was grass - looks nothing like grass, I know, but the day after painting outside, everything looks like a field.

The Glades #336

Are you a direct descendant of John Quincy Adams? I've asked before, but this time I mean it - today I got to go back to 'The Glades,' in Scituate, MA - it's private property now owned by descendants of the Adams' where John Quincy Adams once summered - or as an article written in 1885 for the New York Times states, ". . . and during the heats of the Summer he occupies, with his family, a unique and attractive Summer place on "The Glades," in the lower harbor, off Cohasset."

I think I'd like to go back to a time before air conditioning when people still summered.

But, back to now and The Glades and stepping back in time - I've never seen so much undeveloped land right against the ocean - green grass lawns spread right to the water's edge and there are little cottages, still owned by Adam's descendants. Old boat houses and barns are scattered around, not too close to each other, of course. A gravel road, plenty of birds and you can't hear any cars out there.

Caution to the Wind #335

I toned this canvas in yellow - totally different for me, I have been stuck on toning it in red for so long I hardly even believed my own self when I picked up the yellow tube of paint instead of red, I felt liberated, like throwing caution to the wind! I might even eat dessert tonight - who knows, I'm a wild woman.

Lack of backdrop or not yesterday, what's my excuse for that lousy ellipse on yesterday's posting? Glad no one pointed it out, I appreciate it, boy am I embarrassed - but I didn't notice it then, I was so tuned into getting the window, when I saw it again today it jumped right out at me! Eek!

I set this up on the windowsill, so there wasn't a backdrop, exactly - just the view out the window, which when I stared became more of a large bright color - views out windows are hard, but some people make them look so easy to do!
