#554 Over the Edge 16x16

So, per some suggestions, I took the little one from the other day and painted bigger from it - I think I want a bigger brush. This painting is 16" x 16" - it was fun. Fun enough to start another one this size of a flower still life.

16x16", acrylic on maple panel, email me if interested in purchasing lisa@thebigcvisualjournal.com

Lighthouse #551

SOLD
What an arresting title - no? This painting is from one of my father's photos - Maybe I should help myself to his title too?!

Other News: White Magdelena, 60 South Street in Hingham Square will now also be open on Sundays until Christmas from 12-4 - I brought a whole bunch of paintings down this week including some framed (new type of frames) mini- sheep.

Appetizer #549

I ate these later with brie (the cheese, not to be confused as - 'with brie' - the dog as a dining companion - although she did have a slice and did not bark at it) baked with brown sugar - delicious!

Santa Paws #548

SOLD (don't tell Brie, she'll insist on a cut)

Suddenly, you're thinking, the dog waging war against apple slices is making a little more sense.

And I'm not sure why I thought this would be an easy photo to take - two 'photo shoots', half a bag of peanut butter treats, a little canine caviar and still her brow is furrowed. I Frankensteined four photos together to get good reference.

Happy Holidays!

PP #547

Thank you for the excellent comments and feedback - it might be the time of year 'talking', but I'm delighted to receive your ideas and thoughts. . . and I just wanted you to know.

Other News: Brie, the dog, has a new enemy. Sliced apples. I slice an apple and I give her a wedge and she swats it and then barks at it. This goes on until I break it up, in case you were wondering, which you probably weren't.

On the Edge #546

SOLD
Beyond this is water. Lots and lots of water. I think I'll try this again, not as much lawn, move the building down, make it bigger, a little nip and tuck, if you will.

Willing #545

Although 'crisp' today - it was still a two walk kind of day which was interrupted only by a nice long drive along the water, camera and dog in tow.

Green Chair #544

This is an itty bitty 4"x4" painting - the original photo has four Victorian chairs in it, a settee and a fainting couch (I think) - I honed in on just this chair.

Click here to purchase, 4x4", acrylic, $60

Tablecloth #543

Sooo, what attracted me to this scene to a. photograph and then b. paint it?

Why the flower patterned tablecloth, of course - which I COMPLETELY omitted from the painting.

Other News: Computer calamity over and I have not lost anything in the last 24 hours that I'm aware of.

More News Still: Saturday is the Holiday Boutique in Hingham from 10-4, 172 Main Street - I have some new paintings on display there.

Bo Peep #542

I'm kind of like Bo Peep, except I've lost my a piece of my computer - don't ask, I beg of you, but if I find it in the fridge, like I recently found the elusive phone (only after hitting the locater ringer - hmmm, why's it so muffled? Is it under the dishtowel? No. In the basement? No. Oh, right, it's in the fridge, placed perfectly on the top shelf, like a dairy product.) then I might need a more qualified assistant than Brie, the dog.

Saturday is the Hingham Boutique! 10-4, 172 Main Street, Hingham.

Courage #541

SOLD
If a daisy dare be brave enough to bloom in November, it deserves to be painted.

In a mustard jar.

Other News: The Holiday Boutique is this Saturday, November 20th 10-4, 172 Main Street, Hingham - there's free babysitting AND pictures with Santa from 10-2 - I have some new 4x4" paintings of sheep for sale there - and other paintings ranging in sizes and subjects too. Here's a little look below.

Back to Basics #540

(I still painted sheep today - just in case you were wondering).
Do I need pink paint? I wonder?

Pink Room #538

This is a 12x 12" painting - in between decisions on these bigger ones, I'm still painting farm animals. I now have a painted flock of sheep. I think I want a real one. And I do not have any trees in my yard but I do (did) have 37 bags of leaves, all taken away thanks to a fundraiser by the Hull Public School Theater Department. Wish I had 37 sheep.

Unheard Of! #537

Painting outside ALL day in November ON the water at The Glades and not being the least bit cold? I've never! We had a phenomenal day - it was warm, the sunlight beautiful - the company tremendous, the day went by in a flash -

If you haven't heard me rave about the Glades before - it's a piece of land at the end of Scituate and only the descendants of John Quincy Adams inhabit it. It's an untouched, unspoiled piece of land with beautiful old buildings, I know I've painted this barn before but I did it again - I'm trying to figure out the mystery of painting good whites, ever since I started the sheep, so I couldn't resist this sunlit building. I took a TON of photos too, I cannot wait to download them. But first, it's time to go to a friend's down the street, as soon as I wash the paint off my hands!

Other News: Brie is having another slumber party at my parents', tune in tomorrow to find out what piece of furniture she tried to sleep on top of this time (things that go bump in the night).

More News Still: There's an opening tomorrow (Sunday, 5-7) at Bella's in Rockland. Work by the fabulous Kelley MacDonald and Sally Dean will be on display.

Not a Sheep #536

I haven't lived with this one long enough - it's a little different.

Still merrily painting sheep in between cow attempts.

Baa-Ha! #535

SOLD

Growing up, my friend had a pet sheep and it lived in a doghouse in her backyard. It's name was Lamby-Pie.

As an adult, she has a pug named Courtney-Sue - I have no idea how she comes up with these names.

Anyhow, this "Baa-Ha (moment)" - haha, get it? oh dear, I need a vacation - is from photo reference - thank goodness for illustrators, if they aren't armed with a pre-existing library of images they've taken themselves, they know exactly where to go to help out a sheep-less friend in need.

I've been driving around with a camera in my car determined to find just the right sheep photo to no avail - this photo is used with permission and edited, the original photo had three more sheep in it, two turtle doves and a. . . oh wait, no, no, have I mentioned I've been listening to Christmas music already?

I also did a 12x12" painting today, started a 16x20" and an 8x8" - I got up early and just went for it.

This one is an itty-bitty 4x4" -

Mystery Spice #533

In a finer moment, I thought taking the labels off the spice jars to better see the light and shadows on the canisters would be a great idea.

Cinnamon #532

At first you think it's all about the curry powder, but then you realize, it's always been about the cinnamon.

I forgot to put highlights in yesterday's painting, does it matter I wonder?

Other News; I got to catch up with 'Art Buddy' blog commenter live and in person yesterday.

More News Still; Brie had an oatmeal bath and now I think needs a diet (her peanut butter blobs are to blame).

Stolen Hour #531

SOLD
I had a whole extra hour this morning, seemed wasteful not to put it to use! So, I grabbed some more items from the kitchen and went to work on a bigger (9x12") setup w/these persimmons.

Fellow blogger (who I met this fall at the CM workshop) Christine, asked,

"How do you keep yourself to such economic brushstrokes?"

Well, I've been thinking about it while I work and here's what I've noticed, I seldom put paint in the same place twice. I try not to cover over paint I've already put down. And I squint a lot too, this gets rid of some of the distracting stuff when I'm looking, simplifies what I'm seeing and reduces objects down to their most important characteristics, which is what I then use to make it on my panel.

9x12", acrylic, 9x12"

Pantry Raid

Today is how I should have set up my objects yesterday.

Other News: I dropped off 15 paintings this morning at the North River Arts Society, in Marshfield for their annual holiday sale next weekend - Nov 13 and 14 - 10-4.

More News Still: Page Railsback is having another all day painting workshop on Saturday, the 13th - and I'm going, I can't wait!

Curry in a Hurry #529

I made a very important discovery about myself sometime after painting #528.

I do not like Circus Peanuts.

I realized this last night during a fantastic dinner. There were no Circus Peanuts present, of course, but I've been wondering since before Halloween, if indeed, I'd ever met a dessert I didn't like.

And there it is. Circus Peanuts. Yuck.

So, as the Kelley MacDonald's of the world go on to exhibit self control and make fabulous paintings of cupcakes, and oh, have you happened upon David Simons' pie paintings? Him too, total willpower - me, I'd be inclined to try some of it, all of it, research I could call (justify) it - Becoming the Object, if you will.

Other News: Check back tomorrow for a link to the fabulous Persimmon Painting of Monday which sparked my persimmon life of crime.

Six (er, um two) Persimmons #527

When I leave the house, I see other things and get ideas (borrow?).

Anyhow, I saw an amazing painting of persimmons on Monday with a white vessel and a blue cloth (or was it purple?) and couldn't wait to get myself some persimmons to paint.

Naturally I put them with this blue cloth, I took the white vessel out at the last minute, you'll be happy to know I am still trying to think for myself. Oh, and while I'm leading a life of crime, the title is from a Chinese painting - except it really was 'Six Persimmons' - they weren't really into 'ers and ums' back then, I'm guessing.

I'm going to buy four more tomorrow and just go for it.

Causeway and Baby Causeway #526

One of the many great things about painting with Page is she picks the location or the still life, all you have to do is show up!

And today I got extra lucky as the place was right up the street, seriously, I could leave the same time it started, my commute was 30 seconds, which, if you've ever been to where I live, the only other thing that is a 30 second commute is the driveway.

So, as I was saying, (stating? - eh) we painted at the Causeway today in this studio/home/painting place on the bay oh, and ALSO on the ocean. The houses there are barely on any land and when the tide is high and there's a storm, the water goes right over the street. Making us, temporarily, for only an hour or so, an island. Well, not really, the road is still there, it's just under the water. Which was not the case today, the weather was gray, but calm.

So, I did two 6x6" paintings and a 4x4" -
If you are interested in the 4x4" (bottom one, more blues) email me - not sure about price, it's tiny. lisa@thebigcvisualjournal.com

Over Here #525

Is it me or is that red flower waving frantically to get someone's attention?
Must be me.
